EVERYONE should take time to RELAX and MEDITATE, EVERYDAY!

Meditation is a practice of concentrated focus upon a sound, object, visualization, the breath, movement, or attention itself in order to increase awareness of the present moment, lower stress, promote relaxation, and enhance personal and spiritual growth.” (Retrieved from http://medical-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com/meditation. 2014)

What is Mediation?

“Meditation is one of the best tools to counter the brain’s negativity bias, release accumulated stress, foster positive experiences and intentions, and enjoy the peace of present moment awareness. A large body of research has established that having a regular meditation practice produces tangible benefits for mental and physical health, including: Decreased blood pressure and hypertension, Lowered cholesterol levels, Reduced production of “stress hormones,” including cortisol and adrenaline, More efficient oxygen use by the body, Increased production of the anti-aging hormone DHEA, Improved immune function, Decreased anxiety, depression, and insomnia” (Retrieved from http://www.chopra.com/ccl/why-meditate. par. 4)

How do you start?

A few important things to think about when you begin to meditate …

– First of all, make it a formal practice every day. It is a commitment, but over time it becomes part of your everyday life.

– Find a calm and quiet place to meditate, sit comfortably and begin.

– Focus in on your breath. Take a few deep breaths to start which will help slow your heart rate, which then will relax your muscles.

– Most say that first thing in the morning is the best way to start your day and body on a positive way, but any time is a good time when you need to quiet the crazies that live in all of us.

What I have found most helpful on my meditation journey has been to read and learn about meditation, as well as speaking to someone who practices. This helped me begin to meditate.

Meditation is an absolutely wonderful practice, but can be very difficult in the beginning. Build a little each day and what once was a challenge will now be part of you and your day! So take a BREAK to MEDITATE TODAY and EVERYDAY.
